One does not expect the last Sunday in September to hit 90 degrees, but anything is possible!
On this hot and humid day, members of Maryland Harvest were invited along with 42 others to enjoy a special wine and small plate tasting at al Sospiro Trattoria in Olney. Each of the specially prepared dishes featured fresh produce and/or eggs from Maryland Harvest! One small plate was Bruschetta con Shitake with shitake mushrooms and arugula from Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm, a member of Maryland
Harvest, accompanied by a vodka basil martini shot!
Another plate called Uovo in Pasta included a large homemade ravioli stuffed with swiss chard and pasture raised egg from Maryland Harvest along with ricotta cheese and topped by butter, grated Habanada peppers (Maryland Harvest) and truffle oil.
Arugula, sweet potatoes, peppers, eggs, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, ginger and fresh herbs from Maryland Harvest were featured in the different small plates throughout the evening. All the guests enjoyed their food and the different wines that accompanied each small plate. It was a wonderful evening!
We were happy to supply al Sospiro with some of the bounty of fall. Please stop by and enjoy a meal with them. It is another way to support local Maryland farms.
